We initially supported Michelle with finding a volunteer placement with an organisation that supports victims of domestic violence and crime. This led on to bigger and better things, and she was able to secure a full-time role working for the prison service. With Michelle’s passion for working within the criminal justice system, her next step was to pursue a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. We supported Michelle with funding a laptop and finding an online course that would complement a future Master’s degree, which gave her the motivation to specialise in forensics and pursue her degree at Bucks New University.
Michelle described her experience of using a Personal Success Plan:
"I was completing, I think, my last year of undergraduate study, and I was given the opportunity to work on my Personal Success Plan with a member of the Twenty11 team. At first - I'm not going to lie - I thought, "Why do they want to know about my business?" Then I gave it a try, and it was the best experience.
"I was in a position in life where I didn't know which way to turn, and doing the plan and the encouragement and guidance provided by the team were like lights that just flashed in my head. At that stage, we were looking to build up my self-esteem and confidence to get a job once my undergraduate study was completed. The plan was then to look into voluntary work so that I could find the field that I enjoyed the most. All worked well. I was never left alone, and they checked regularly to make sure I didn't give up. I managed to get the job that I really enjoy doing.
"My second experience with the team came out of the blue. I got a message to request another plan. Then again, I thought I might not need it; I was working, and my degree was completed. I had another amazing experience and motivation from the team to pursue my Master's. The team offered me a course in the area where I wanted to finish my Master's, and they helped me with any materials I needed.
"I have no words to express how grateful I was to have this opportunity with the team. I'm a single mother, and I was getting to a point to give up on all my dreams, so I'm glad that I engaged with the team!"
